About Banana Tree Log

Banana Tree Log is about documenting everything going on in my life that relates to my anxiety. Any experiences I am having, thoughts, and feelings I want to share it all on this log. As I go through my recovery and learning to manage and control my anxiety I want to share what I have learned with everyone.

My anxiety made it difficult for me to seek help or talk to family and friends. This is why I created Banana Tree Log, which is a place where anyone can come and read about my experiences. Maybe some of the challenges I face are similar to what you are also experiencing. Maybe a few of you can take what I have learned and use it for yourself. Even if our challenges and symptoms are not related, maybe just reading about mine will give you some hope to try and overcome your own challenges. From people I know personally telling me about their experiences and challenges, that gave me that little extra bit of hope and motivation to over come my own anxiety.

About Me

My name is Anthony and I am a 30 year old Canadian born and raised in Calgary. I have experienced various levels of anxiety throughout most of my life and currently getting professional help to manage and control my anxiety.

I graduated from university with a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineer in 2013. In addition, I am certified as a Project Management Profession (PMP) and Certified Maintenance & Reliability Professional (CMRP). I’ve worked as in Asset Management field for over 6 years with various industries (Oil & Gas, Mining, Pulp & Paper, Chemical, FMCG) to help develop and implement maintenance strategies and improve their overall plant reliability. I recently left my job to focus on my well being and improve my overall mental health.

Most my anxiety revolves around being afraid to go out, driving (especially during winter), social interactions, and expressing my feelings. I will discuss more about my specific anxiety and triggers in the blog.

To manage some of that anxiety I have various hobbies that help keep me calm. Mostly I enjoy being outdoors in the sunshine and mountains. Some of my hobbies include:

Currently, I am volunteering once a week with an international non-profit humanitarian organization. We regularly help at the homeless shelter, clothing donations, etc. By volunteering it also helps manage my anxiety while giving back to the community.
